Aromatherapy and Cancer
My encounter with several close friends contracting cancer has put a heavy burden on my heart to find some reprieve in the use of essential oils for this debilatating and much feared disease.
In his booK "The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils", Dr Kurt Schnaubelt devoted a whole chapter on Aromatherapy and Cancer and the findings of French physician Dr Anne-Marie Giraud-Robert. Concerns that essential oil components might produce undesirable drug interactions have been answered by research results that patients treated with essential oils in addition to allopathic treatment have a dramatically improved prognosis.
In oncology, the treatment objective has to be twofold - attempting to cure the disease and to maintain as high a life quality as possible. Maintaining quality of life is difficult, as the conventional therapies attack not only the cancerous cells but also the healthy cells and drastic side effects are the norm. Giraud-Robert's work clearly demonstrated that essential oil treatments are best suited to protect the patient's quality of life at the various stages of the disease.
Essential oil treatments can reduce side effects of cancer drugs (excessive sedation, anxiety, restlessness, nausea, increased susceptibility to infection, and blood and liver toxicity). Dr Giraud-Robert concludes that essential oil treatments improve quality of life not only by reducing the side effects of cancer drugs but equality importantly by stimulating the natural defenses and draining toxins from liver and kidneys.
According to Dr Giraud-Robert, aromatherapy can be beneficially used in
pre or post operative

during radiation therapy
